Purchased this book for a friend who has his master's in Energy Engineering. He wants to change the Energy Policy in Afghanistan and was in great need of this book. It took us over 2 months and loads of trouble to get the book there. I hope that it provided good value and became a good resource for the Engineering Faculty in Kabul University. Our goal is to build the Kabul Universities Engineering Faculty library with up to date books and reference manuals for students to be able to learn from cutting edge theories and advancments in energy sector.
The book was in mint condition. never used a single time is my guess. someone likely picked it up at a library sale and resold it at a very high mark up... which is ok. As far as content goes, I'm not a big fan of the author, but I wanted to prepare for a test, and the book was prep.
Overall, the quality of books published by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) are excellent. They have resisted the "thin paper" attempts to keep costs down to which other organizations have resigned themselves. The AEE book bindings are solid, Smyth-sewn, with durable hard covers.To content- That is where this book falls short and falls into inconsistency in my opinion.The basic information is sound and is clearly presented, with prime sharp printing, crisp fonts and appropriate layouts. Where the book falls short is in tabular information in the appendix to their detriment, with illustrations/figures to a lesser degree.It is understandable that some illustrations are to simply show, "what a thing looks like", be it a psychrometric chart, fan wheel, for the newer user. But these illustrations are in several instances, "copies of copies of copies" and show the loss of line clarity original artwork should have, especially in a smaller-format book.The appendix tabular data, specifically the steam tables which I use most often, has a thick font, similarly scanned from another source and difficult to read compared to original print content. Sure, one can make it out, but font matters, as does consistency.The attached photo shows the contrast between apparently scanned steam tables on the right and original discount rate factors on the left. There are 25 such pages in these tables. This is truly a "hand" book, at 6-1/4" x 9-1/4". But as such, all data if worth including for quick reference, should be as clear as possible; the purpose seems to be defeated and this detracts from what could have been an excellent book..I should note that AEE's voluminous yet similarly titled, "Energy Management Handbook", truly a desk reference and an excellent resource, has these tables and others, well-printed and legible. I cannot see why tables of that quality could not be included, even if it meant more pages to the book.
